The recent introduction of new state of the art "Cutera Titan" the leading provider of laser and other light-based aesthetic systems for practitioners worldwide has seen the first tailored infrared light source for sustained deep dermal heating being used at the Melbourne College in conjunction with medical practitioners ensuring students have an opportunity to train in new and expanding fields of beauty.

Hairdressing Accreditation

Teaching Methods

All the accredited courses in this booklet are delivered through the use of lectures, demonstrations, visual aids, observations, practice and critiques. The course is taught in two phases basic training and salon sessions. The basic training session includes classroom presentation, lectures, and introductions for the theory. The salon session is conducted at the college builtin hair salon including demonstration, hands-on experiences to contextually generic subjects. Some training at the college virtual salon is also required for real life supervisory experience.

Teaching Resources

  • Hair Salon: Practical classes are conducted in our real Hair Salon Studio
  • Students will be provided with hair products and equipments to work on hair

Scheduled Hours Per Week

International:

25hrs/Wk to complete all learning and assessment activities undertaken by a student, including self-study and project work. Face to Face Delivery is 21 hrs/wk

Local:

40hrs/Wk to complete all learning and assessment activities undertaken by a student, including self-study and project work. Face to Face Delivery is 35 hrs/wk
(unless studying part-time)

Course Structure

This courses cover practical skills including cutting, shampooing, rinsing, styling, straightening, curling and colouring. The course also emphasises client service, product knowledge and communication skills. It develops students’ manual skills, giving the technical knowledge and expertise for work in hairdressing and hair design. Students gain an understanding of hairdressers’ rights, obligations and the hairdressing industry in general, as well as product and equipment knowledge and business management skills. Workplace training in a number of modules is a feature of this course. It is necessary for students to participate in a salon work placement as part of the course.

English Language Requirements

To be eligible, you must have achieved:

  • An overall IELTS (International English Language Testing Service) (Academic Module) score of 5.5 with all subtest scores at 5.0+ or
  • An internet-based TOEFL score of 70+ with a minimum of 18 in all sections or
  • a computer-based TOEFL score of 197 with an Essay Rating (ER) score of 4 or
  • a paper-based TOEFL score of 525 with a TWE (Test of Written English) score of 4 or
  • an upper intermediate level at an English Language Institute.
Note: Students who do not meet the English requirements can undertake an intensive English course
